Description
1-11/64” Square Broach 24-1/4” Long High Speed Steel Machinist Tool. Condition is "Used". Here is what I know:– it came from an old machine shop/small factory that made an unusual size adjustable wrench
- The blades are on three sides, one side is smooth.
– I cannot confirm that this is “new”, but based on my observation it does not appear to have been used… And I found a large group of these together… I would assume this was their inventory of unused broaches that never made it to production. It appears that it was reworked once in 1980, and then reworked again in 1982.
- The owner of the workshop worked at S&K tool factory located in defiance Ohio. He had access to their used equipment, and as they would clean out their inventory he would bring things home. I am assuming this is where it came from.
- I don’t know how old this broach is, but I’m guessing it is from sometime in the 1980s. I do know the company started making wrenches in 1974, and made their last one in 1982. This broach would be from sometime in that time. It does have a marking on it that it was reworked in November 1980, and again in May 19 82, but I don’t know the date that this was originally created on
- I can find no markings on these that show what brand they are, or any of the specifics. Based on the information I received from the previous owner, I am assuming these are high-speed steel, but I have no official confirmation on this.
– these appear that they have never been used, or if they were used they had been re-sharpened.
- The entire piece is 24-1/4” in length. Round shaft at the end measures 3/4” across. The teeth at the narrow end measure approximately 55/64” accross and at the wide end measure 1-1/32”. There are approximately 88 rows of teeth/blades.
- it weighs 6lbs 10 ounces.
- it does have some light rust, but overall appears to be in good condition. All of the teeth seem to be sharp and I cannot find any chips or heavy damage to it. Please remember that this piece has been sitting on the shelf in a machine shop since at least 1982.
- I AM NOT A MACHINIST....... I will do my best to describe this piece, but if I mis-label some thing or I am off by 1/64” of a measure...,” please have patience with me. I will do my best to work with you, please remember that I am not a certified machine shop nor do I spend my life working with items like this.
